Fox's Laura Ingraham defends white supremacist after Trump promotes her show
Minutes after getting a bump from Trump, Ingraham was busy extolling the virtues of white supremacist Paul Nehlen.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham defended a white supremacist on-air Thursday night with the help of Trump.
“I will be watching @AlanDersh on @IngrahamAngle at 10:00 P.M. He speaks the truth!” Trump wrote on Twitter at 9:52 p.m.
Just minutes after receiving the Trump promotion sent to the millions of people who see his Twitter feed, Ingraham was defending white supremacist Paul Nehlen.
Ingraham described Nehlen as one of the “people who believe in border enforcement, people who believe in national sovereignty” while showing his photo in a segment about fringe figures who have been banned from social media.
Ingraham was expressing outrage at the ban and sympathy for Nehlen.
Nehlen is an anti-Semite who the Daily Beast described as “the most prominent white nationalist in U.S. politics today.” He has twice run unsuccessful campaigns for a congressional seat in Wisconsin.
He was banned from Twitter in 2018 for posting a racist photo manipulation of Meghan Markle, who was at the time engaged to England’s Prince Harry.
Nehlen has done things like compile a list of Jews “who have attacked me.” He also posted a photo of himself wearing a t-shirt with a quote from the shooter who murdered 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
In 2016, when he was campaigning for president, Trump thanked Nehlen for supporting him during a time when Trump was widely criticized for attacking the Muslim family of a deceased American soldier.
Ingraham has a long-standing relationship with Trump, and both share white supremacist sympathies. She was once rumored to be in the running to be his press secretary.
Trump has mentioned or retweeted Ingraham at least 32 times on his Twitter feed over the years. When he’s not praising her for praising him, he is promoting his appearances on her show.
Ingraham and Trump are essentially joined at the hip, and when she got the Trump bump, she wasted no time getting to one of their shared favorite topics: white supremacy.
