GOP senator tries to blame Democrats for Trump’s constant temper tantrums

So much for personal responsibility.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) made excuses for Trump’s inappropriate and immature behavior this week, saying Trump’s toddler-like temper tantrums were justified because Democrats are investigating him.

“I’m disappointed by the House’s actions,” Blunt told The Hill. “I think there’s more harassment than oversight going on, and even Nancy Pelosi seems to have agreed that the better thing to do is to legislate rather than to investigate. You can’t expect the president to hear that diatribe all day every day and not have a reaction.”

First of all, it’s rich for Republicans to claim that you cannot legislate and investigate at the same time.

This is the same party that ran politically motivated investigations against Obama administration officials for years — including the GOP’s sick Benghazi investigation that even the families of the people killed in the Benghazi embassy attack said was a political witch hunt.

That Benghazi inquiry was always meant to dig up any kind of dirt Republicans could use against Hillary Clinton. Back in 2015, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy accidentally admitted that the investigation had been an effort to take Clinton down from the start.

It’s what led to the revelation that Clinton used a personal email server — a story that Republicans, with help from the media, blew out of proportion to help push Trump to victory.

Now, Democrats control the House for the first time since 2011, and they are conducting legitimate oversight that looks nothing like the GOP’s politically motivated inquiries.

Democrats are looking into Trump’s shady business dealings, conflicts of interests, and blatant attempts to obstruct justice that special counsel Robert Mueller laid out in his report.

They are also issuing subpoenas that Trump is ordering his current and former officials to ignore. And the more Trump obstructs these investigations, the more likely he is to get himself impeached.

Trump is becoming increasingly unhinged as the walls close in, making a fool of himself in televised temper tantrums that began on Wednesday and are still ongoing.

On Wednesday, he stormed out of a planned meeting with Democrats on infrastructure because he was mad that Democrats are rightfully investigating his conduct.

After storming out, he held a “news” conference in the White House Rose Garden in which he threw a fit at the media for reporting on his cover-ups and crimes, and told the country that he will refuse to do his job until Democrats drop their probes.

On Thursday, Trump had another meltdown on Twitter, lashing out at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for accurately pointing out that he had a temper tantrum.

Later Thursday, Trump melted down yet again at an event about farmers, demanding that his aides tell the world how “calm” he is. It was an embarrassing display.

And on Thursday night, Trump tweeted a deceptively edited video of Pelosi that made it look like she had problems with speaking. “PELOSI STAMMERS THROUGH NEWS CONFERENCE,” Trump wrote. (It looks like first lady Melania Trump has some work to do with her “Be Best” anti-bullying campaign.)

None of this behavior is appropriate for a grown adult, let alone the leader of the free world.

Yet Republicans like Blunt are defending Trump’s conduct.

Republicans prove again and again that their purpose is to defend their indefensible leader.
