GOP lawmakers say it's 'Stalinesque' they had to work at 10 a.m. on a Friday

Republicans were outraged that the House Judiciary Committee had to meet again on Friday morning to vote on articles of impeachment.

Republican lawmakers were downright furious late Thursday night that Democrats recessed a hearing on finalizing articles of impeachment against Donald Trump and instead postponed a vote on until 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Democrats said they postponed the hearing until the morning so as not to hold a vote on impeachment articles in the middle of the night. “They can’t expect to go… into the middle of the night without the American public seeing,” Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said.

But GOP lawmakers were irate that after stalling the hearing by introducing unnecessary amendments, they had to come back on another day to vote, calling the move “Stalinesque” and “unbelievable.”

“Let’s have a dictator,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said, after House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler recessed the hearing until the morning.

Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA), the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, held a news conference after Nadler (D-NY) recessed the hearing, in which he yelled about how awful it was that he had to come back into work Friday morning at 10 a.m.

“This was the most bush league thing I have seen forever,” Collins said, yelling about how angry he was that he had to wake up in the morning and attend work. “And if the American people wonder about this impeachment anymore they don’t have to wonder anymore, they saw what happened right here tonight.”

The House Judiciary Committee plans on voting on the final articles of impeachment against Donald Trump on Friday morning.

That sets the House up to vote on the articles — one for abuse of power and another for obstruction of justice — next week, before Congress leaves town for the holiday recess.
