Watch Homeland Security secretary get shouted off stage by protesters

Kevin McAleenan, acting secretary of Homeland Security, was hounded off the stage by pro-immigrant protesters at an event on Monday.

McAleenan was the keynote speaker at the Immigration Law and Policy Conference held at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

When he got up to speak at the conference, protesters began to jeer and chant, “When immigrants are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back.” They also held up a large banner in front of the stage that said, “Hate is not normal.” Another read, “stand with immigrants.”

McAleenan tried multiple times to start his speech but was repeatedly interrupted. Eventually, he gave up.

“Okay, thank you, have a good day,” he told organizers as he took his papers and walked off stage to applause.

Trump’s harsh anti-immigrant actions and policies have roiled his administration from the start. His administration took children from their families and have subjected thousands of immigrants to conditions that are unsanitary and dangerous.

The administration has attempted to spend billions on a southern border wall, while Trump has demonized Mexican immigrants as “animals” and “rapists.” Trump has also cut down on the number of people allowed to seek refuge in the United States and worked to limit legal immigration.
