Donald Trump was not prepared for the fallout from his comments behind closed doors disparaging Haiti and African nations as shithole countries.
But now that he understands the trouble he has created for himself and his presidency, he cannot get away from reporters fast enough.
On Friday, Trump delivered an awkward speech recognizing Martin Luther King Day, praising King for “standing up for the self-evident truth Americans hold so dear, that no matter what the color of our skin, or the place of our birth, we are all created equal by God.” It was a statement ludicrously at odds with his own stated personal beliefs that immigrants from certain countries he deems undesirable should not be welcome.
And the second reporters began to hound him, he darted away.
April Ryan, White House correspondent and Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks, could clearly be heard asking, Mr. President, are you a racist? Trump hurried through the door without answering.
The tone of coverage of the Trump White House has perceptibly shifted this week. Reporters are losing patience with Trumps obvious contempt for minorities and he is starting to realize it.
