Fox tries to help Trump by smearing Eagles players kneeling in prayer
Fox News fabricated images of Philadelphia Eagles taking a knee during the anthem. But Eagles players are calling out the right-wing propaganda.
Players for the Philadelphia Eagles are calling out the right-wing propagandists at Fox News for smearing their teammates to help Trump.
Trump is currently the subject of widespread ridicule for disinviting the Eagles from the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.
After most of the players for the championship team indicated they would not visit with Trump, who is a racist, the White House said the event had been cancelled. In their statement, the White House said the Eagles “disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem.”
But Eagles players have never taken a knee to protest police brutality against blacks like other teams have. Still, that didn’t stop the rabidly pro-Trump Fox News, which, lacking photos of any Eagles players taking a knee, ran footage of players who were kneeling in prayer during “Fox News @ Night.”
The fake news was slammed by Eagles players.
Defensive end Chris Long wrote to Fox, “Imagine wanting to please the boss so very badly that you run stills of guys knelt down PRAYING during pregame. Not one Eagles player knelt for the anthem this yr. Keep carrying his water to sow division while misrepresenting Christian men.”
Tight end Zach Ertz said, “This can’t be serious…. Praying before games with my teammates, well before the anthem, is being used for your propaganda?! Just sad, I feel like you guys should have to be better than this.”
The fake news was an attempt to bolster Trump’s war against black NFL players. Trump has insisted that players be prevented from using their platform to highlight police brutality against black Americans.
He has pushed the league to penalize protests, and even demanded legislators punish the NFL.
The racist campaign against the league (aided by Mike Pence) is compounded by the NFL’s rejection of Trump’s attempt to buy a team back in the 1980s.
His resentment, combined with his inherent racism, has led to his use of the presidential office for his sad crusade.
Now Fox News has misled its audience about the Eagles as they try to help Trump.
But they got caught, and like so many other Americans, the players are speaking out against Trump and his enablers.
Update: Fox News subsequently issued an apology for showing “unrelated footage” and clarified that “no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout the regular or post-season last year.”
