Roy Moore’s Alabama Senate campaign continues to plumb the depths of depravity, now describing one of his alleged abuse victims, Leigh Corfman, as a “problem child.” The smear is the latest tactic being employed by the Trump-endorsed Republican candidate to deflect charges that he molested her when she was 14.

In an interview with the conservative Weekly Standard, Moore campaign chairman Bill Armistead said Corfman was “a problem child” at the time of the custody hearing where she encountered Moore.

Armistead was attempting to blame the victim to defend his candidate.

The comment is the latest in a litany of underhanded actions by Moore and his supporters to undercut the extremely credible multiple accusations against him. He threatened to dig up dirt on his accusers, and has claimed that the allegations are part of a conspiracy cooked up by Democrats, the Washington Post, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The crude attempt at deflection highlights the predatory behavior Moore is accused of.

It was at that hearing that a 32-year-old Moore, then an assistant district attorney, allegedly offered to watch Corfman while her parents went to the hearing. He allegedly used that time with her to get her personal information, then later kissed her and sexually fondled her. The account is corroborated by two of her childhood friends and her mother.

Despite this incident and a pattern of similarly predatory behavior with other teenage girls — Moore was banned from a shopping mall as a result — the Republican establishment is aligning behind his campaign.

Trump cast Moore, who was thrown off the Alabama Supreme Court twice for refusing to comply with the law, as stronger on law and order than the Democratic candidate, Doug Jones. Jones prosecuted the Ku Klux Klan for murdering four black girls in the 1963 bombing of a Birmingham church.

Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in a media market that crosses over into Alabama, effectively rallying for his fellow Republican and accused molester.

Meanwhile, McConnell and other Republicans are backpedaling on their earlier criticism of Moore, refusing now to disqualify him based on his reported actions.

And Breitbart, which tried to head off the initial report of the allegations and has defended Moore all along, continues to fight tooth and nail to give pedophilia a pass.

Regardless of the outcome of the Alabama race, Republicans have now given a green light to accused pedophiles to run for office, and if they choose to do so, they are free to throw out depraved attacks on victims of sexual crimes.
