Rep. Jerrod Nadler: “We must overcome this little man in the White House who is disgracing our history.”

Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) was not the only member of Congress to declare Donald Trump an illegitimate president. Here is what Rep. Here is what Rep. Jerrold Nadler had to say shortly thereafter on CNN:

He was legally elected, but the Russian weighing-in on the election, the Russian attempt to hack the election and, frankly, the FBI’s weighing-in on the election, I think, makes his election illegitimate, puts an asterisk next to his name.

Whether at New York’s JFK Airport defending refugees or on Capitol Hill battling torture or the GOP assault on women’s health, Jerrold Nadler has resisted at every turn.

And he did not wait for Trump to take office.

Within days of the election, Nadler released “How We Resist Trump and His Extreme Agenda,” a guide for all who have asked what they can do to fight:

So we must do everything we can to stop Trump and his extreme agenda now.  We do this by:

1. Holding him accountable for the tenor and tactics of his campaign, as well as his past and ongoing deplorable personal, professional and political conduct;

2. Waging fierce battles against every regressive action he takes—from personnel appointments to his legislative program—in order to thwart or at least slow them down;

3. Exposing his Republican enablers in Congress, and voting them out of office in 2018, with the goal of taking back either the House or the Senate for Democratic control.

(Read the whole thing for pragmatic advice on how to do all of the above.)

A month before Trump was sworn in, Nadler held a jam-packed townhall to prepare constituents for the fight ahead.

Now, as every day brings a new attack on our values and democratic principles, Nadler appears more ready to fight than ever.

Here is he at the protest against Trump’s Muslim ban outside the Supreme Court:

We must overcome this dark time. We must overcome this little man in the White House, who is disgracing our history and disgracing our traditions. We must continue to welcome people from all over the world, regardless of their race, or their color, or their religion, or their creed, or their national origin. That’s what our Constitution demands, that’s what our law demands, that’s what our people demand, and we will prevail.

If Democrats keep fighting like Jerrold Nadler, we will indeed prevail.
