Sarah Sanders thinks lying for Trump means she should get to be governor of Arkansas

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is moving toward a gubernatorial campaign in Arkansas, fresh off her stint as Trump’s most reliable and visible liar.

“Sanders and her allies have started making calls to donors and Republican operatives” in the state in preparation for a run, Politico reported on Wednesday.

One person who has spoken to Sanders about running told the outlet “she’s extremely serious.”

Trump has talked up her prospects as well.

“I have a feeling she’s going to be running for a certain gubernatorial position,” Trump said of Sanders as he introduced her at his campaign rally in Orlando Tuesday night.

Last week, Trump also talked up her prospects, tweeting, “I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic.”

Working for Trump is the most high-profile political position Sanders has had. Before that, she was campaign manager for her father, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, on his failed 2016 presidential campaign, and also worked on his failed presidential 2012 presidential bid. Sanders has in the past worked for politicians like Minnesota Republican Tim Pawlenty, whose disastrous career in politics was described by MinnPost columnist David Schultz as both “tragedy and farce.”

Her tenure as Trump’s press secretary was jam-packed with blatant lies and open hostility to the free press.

She had a starring role in the Mueller report, which meticulously documented her dishonesty.

Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey in May 2017 after Comey refused to publicly exonerate Trump in the Russia investigation. In the press briefing that followed the next day, Sanders claimed that the firing had occurred because “countless FBI agents” had “lost confidence in Comey.”

This was a lie.

“Sanders acknowledged to investigators that her comments were not founded on anything,” the Mueller report noted.

As she so often did during her tenure, Sanders defended the lie.

“It was the heat of the moment, meaning that it wasn’t a scripted talking point,” she told ABC News in April, adding, “I’m sorry that I wasn’t a robot like the Democrat Party.”

When she wasn’t lying to America, Sanders was hiding from the truth.

She effectively canceled the daily White House briefing after cutting down on the events for months. The most recent briefing Sanders gave was on March 11, and only two briefings have been held in all of 2019.

Ending the briefings allowed Trump to avoid even mild questioning on his own lies and his administration’s mismanagement and corruption. Sanders avoided accountability as well.

If Sanders decides to run, her White House tenure was a preview of how she would run the state: Deception, hostility, and deflection, over and over again.

Sarah Sanders lies for a living and now wants to be rewarded by millions of voters for doing so in service of Trump.
