Trump invites Kim Jong Un to White House after calling ally 'obnoxious'
Seconds after attacking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Trump invited the brutal dictator of North Korea to visit him at the White House.
Trump continued his attacks on America’s closest allies Tuesday morning, then immediately issued a friendly White House invitation to North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong Un.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump complained that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had made an “obnoxious” comment at the recently concluded meeting of the G-7.
Trump alleged Trudeau “gave out a little bit of an obnoxious thing,” adding, “He shouldn’t have done that. That was a mistake. That’s going to cost him a lot of money.”
(After the G-7 meeting, Trump declined to sign the unified communique between the seven nations, and instead went on a Twitter tirade attacking Trudeau.)
As soon as he made his remark about Trudeau in the ABC interview, anchor George Stephanopoulos asked, “When is Kim coming to the White House?”
Shifting from his aggressive tone toward Canada, Trump gushed, “I want to get it along. I want the process to start. I want to see some real work going on, which I believe I will, and I would love to have him at the White House — whatever it takes, and I would love to have him at the White House, and I think he’d love to be there.”
Trump has been on a rampage, decrying Trudeau for responding to the tariffs Trump’s own administration secretly admits will damage the U.S. economy.
The outburst is keeping in line with his pattern of going after America’s long-time allies, like Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
At the same time, Trump has lavished autocratic and repressive regimes with nonstop praise. He talked up the prospects of his political ally, Vladimir Putin, rejoining the G-7 nations and dismissed why Putin had been kicked out (for invading and occupying Crimea).
Now, in the same breath he used to attack Canada, who shares the northern border with the United States and who fought side-by-side with American soldiers in World War II, he praised North Korea.
North Korea is a repressive regime that does not allow free and open expression. They kill political opponents. They have killed American hostages. They refused international aid for their citizens as they were killed by famine.
Trump is welcoming them to the White House, while telling off the allies who sacrificed life and limb to help secure freedom and democracy around the world.
