Trump loses it over his chief of staff trying to protect America — from Trump

Constantly fighting his insecurities, while feverishly concerned that others inside the White House are getting more credit and are seen as more powerful than him, Donald Trump is now ranting about a new threat to his ego — a belief that his chief of staff John Kelly is trying to protect America from Trump.

Only in the chaotic, dysfunctional world of Trump would this scenario even be possible. But according to one CNN report, that’s exactly what’s unfolding inside today’s paranoid White House.

Specifically, Trump’s decision to barge into Kelly’s office Wednesday night and hold an impromptu Q&A, while Kelly was hosting reporters to brief them on immigration policy, is being described as an attempt to put Kelly “in a box.”

A short time later it was announced, at the last minute, that Kelly would not be traveling with Trump to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“The president has increasingly felt that John Kelly is trying to undermine him. He feels like he doesn’t respect him,” reported CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Friday. Trump wanted to remind Kelly “who is boss here because he feels like John Kelly is increasingly acting like he is protecting the country from the president.”

It appears that Kelly is still paying the price for having committed the cardinal sin of suggesting in a meeting with Democrats that Trump had been “uniformed” about the issue of immigration and regarding the border wall. That’s the same border wall that Trump spent the 2016 campaign ridiculously claiming Mexico would pay for.

Soon after the “uniformed” comment, Kelly appeared on Fox News and, trying to do damage control, described Trump has having “evolved” on the issues.

“The interview set Trump off — he ‘hated’ his comments” and “spent the evening calling friends and allies to complain about it,”  according to CNN.

Trump “particularly disliked the word ‘uninformed’ that appeared in news reports and has chafed for weeks at the characterization of himself as not intelligent,” added the Washington Post.

Trump quickly lashed out on Twitter, humiliating Kelly in the process. “The Wall is the Wall, it has never changed or evolved from the first day I conceived of it,” Trump announced. “Parts will be, of necessity, see through and it was never intended to be built in areas where there is natural protection such as mountains, wastelands or tough rivers or water.”

This is just the latest episode of madness to emerge from Trump’s chronically dysfunctional White House.

On the same day that CNN reported Trump is mad at Kelly for trying to protect America from Trump, the White House was scrambling to respond to the New York Times scoop that Trump’s White House attorney last year threatened to quit if Trump went through with his demand to fire special counsel Robert Mueller — a demand that Trump issued just a month after he fired then-FBI Director James Comey.

No wonder Kelly might be thinking about trying to protect America.
