Trump whines that London mayor he called a ‘stone-cold loser’ shouldn't criticize him

Trump used a Tuesday press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May to whine about criticism he received from London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“I don’t think he should be criticizing a representative of the United States that can do so much good for the United Kingdom,” Trump said.

Trump didn’t stop there, insulting Khan as “a negative force, not a positive force,” and claiming he has done a “poor job” as mayor of London.

Trump seems to think that it’s fine for him to insult Khan, but that Khan is a “negative force” if he expresses legitimate criticism of Trump.

In fact, Trump began his trip to London as a negative force, immediately criticizing Khan the moment he landed for his official state visit to the United Kingdom. Trump tweeted that Khan “is a stone cold loser” just as Air Force One touched down, adding that Khan has been “foolishly ‘nasty’ to the visiting President of the United States.”

Trump was likely referring to a Saturday op-ed Khan penned in the Guardian, in which Khan took Trump to task for the many serious problems with his presidency, including Trump’s family separation policy, his use of “xenophobia, racism and ‘otherness’ as an electoral tactic,” and his praise for “the ‘very fine people on both sides’ when torch-wielding white supremacists and antisemites marched through the streets.”

Khan said it was “un-British to be rolling out the red carpet this week for a formal state visit for a president whose divisive behaviour flies in the face of the ideals America was founded upon — equality, liberty and religious freedom.”

While Khan criticized Trump’s policies and bigoted actions, Trump resorted to childish personal insults.
