US border agency confirms it hasn't built even a mile of Trump's wall
Trump’s wall is still coming up short.
Despite Trump’s grand proclamations that “hundreds” of miles of wall would be built this year, his administration has not installed any new wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
“The Trump administration has not installed a single mile of new wall in a previously fenceless part of the U.S.-Mexico border in the 30 months since President Trump assumed office,” the conservative Washington Examiner reported on Saturday.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency confirmed the information to the outlet, noting that all the fence completed under Trump has been “in place of dilapidated designs” rather than new construction.
The agency said it has built 51 miles of fence, but that has all been replacement for previously existing barriers.
Trump has made the wall central to his presidency. Despite clear information that it would be impractical and seen as a racist approach to a serious problem, he has repeatedly pushed to “build the wall.”
“We’re going to have over 400 miles of wall built, much of it is already started, by the end of next year,” Trump said in May.
Despite his weak wall performance, Trump has used tax dollars to finance trips to the border, including an April event where he visited a plaque that celebrated him for building “new” portions of the wall. That too was also refurbishing.
Like much of what Trump promises, the wall is a mirage. It isn’t being built and his grandiose promises are again coming up short.
