Sarah Sanders won't say how many black people work at White House

Trump’s White House still can’t say how many black staffers it employs, even after senior adviser Kellyanne Conway was embarrassed by a similar question over the weekend.

At Wednesday afternoon’s White House daily briefing, Associated Press correspondent Catherine Lucey reminded Sarah Huckabee Sanders that before her ouster, Omarosa Manigault Newman “was the highest ranking African-American staffer” at the White House.

“No staffer has been appointed at that level since her absence,” Lucey pointed out, and asked, “Can you tell us exactly how many African-American staffers there are in this building?”

Sanders could not answer the question that was asked, pivoting instead to say “We value diversity” and “we have a large number of diverse staffers from various backgrounds, both race, religion, gender.”

“How many black staffers are there in this building, Sarah?” Lucey pressed.

“I’m not going to do a count,” Sanders said, again trying to deflect the issue by saying she also wouldn’t “sit down and do a count on the staffers that are in your news organizations.”

Sanders did succeed in reminding America that even when Omarosa was the most senior black Trump adviser, she still didn’t rate an office in the West Wing, but rather held a spot in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door to the White House.

But Sanders could not manage to identify which, if any, black Americans are currently employed in the White House, despite the fact that White House counselor Kellyanne Conway bungled the same question four days ago.

On Sunday, Conway was unable to name a single black person who works in the West Wing, and seemed unable to come up with a last name for Ja’Ron Smith, a legislative affairs assistant who works in the Executive Office of the President (EOP).

Sanders’ inability to name how many black people are employed by the Trump White House comes just hours after she was forced to apologize for lying about how many black Americans got jobs during the administration of our first black president.

It seems the only African American jobs Trump’s White House wants credit for are the ones Barack Obama created.
