Susan Collins complains that Trump's meltdowns get more airtime than her speeches
Susan Collins is currently holding down the position of second most unpopular senator in the U.S.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) complained that Trump’s racist outbursts are cutting into coverage of her Senate speeches.
Her comment came in an article published by Politico on Thursday discussing Republican frustrations with Trump’s attack on Baltimore and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD).
“It’s frustrating because we’re doing a lot of work on lowering health costs. And I did a major speech on the Senate floor and it gets no coverage. Instead what I’m asked about is the latest tweet, which I obviously I don’t agree with,” Collins told the outlet.
But Collins is part of the Republican caucus that continues to prop up Trump to make his attacks.
She has tied herself to his presidency by voting with him 93% of the time over the last few years. Collins has also stood next to Trump as he nominates justices like Brett Kavanaugh, turning a blind eye to credible allegations of sexual assault that were brought against him.
When Collins aids Trump to skew the judiciary branch to the right, it legitimizes his race rants.
Collins’ affiliation with Trump has coincided with her plummeting approval rating, leading to her being the second most unpopular senator in America, after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Collins’ complaint about Trump minimizes her role in keeping him afloat. If her speeches are being drowned out, some of the blame lies with her.
