Trump attack dog Nunes busted using campaign donations as personal funds

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) has been caught using campaign money he raised pushing pro-Trump conspiracy theories on lavish luxuries for his personal enjoyment.

According to recently filed spending reports, Nunes used his PAC, called New PAC, to buy steak dinners, limousine rides, and nearly $15,000 in tickets for the Boston Celtics, all listed as fundraising expenses.

Nunes’ PAC also spent $3,593 at the 4-star Omni Parker House hotel in Boston on the same date of the Celtics games.

Nunes also racked up bills at seven different Las Vegas restaurants on one day, totaling over $7,000, including $2,365 at a cocktail bar called The Dorsey. ABC reports that the bar offers to serve “Dom Perignon and other fine liquors directly from a disco ball as part of its ‘Disco Punch Bowl Pairings’ special.”

The money for the Nunes spending spree was generated by conspiratorial, pro-Trump appeals that brought in $6.25 million in the first half of 2018.

In those fundraising appeals, Nunes described ongoing investigations of Trump and his campaign, especially regarding its work with Russian operatives, as a Democratic conspiracy. He also wrote that Democrats had “become unhinged” for questioning his role obstructing investigations into Trump.

Nunes even boasted he “earned the hatred of the revenge-driven members of the Democratic leadership cabal and the Far Left media.”

Andrew Janz, the Democrat running against Nunes this year, told HuffPost, “I doubt his campaign donors intended their donations to be used for personal and lavish expenditures like basketball tickets and expensive wine tours.”

Recent polling has shown Janz within striking distance of Nunes, even though his district went to Trump by 10 points.

Nunes is arguably Trump’s top ally in Congress and has been the front man for a crusade attempting at every turn to shut down investigations into Trump.

In exchange, Trump praised Nunes as “a man of tremendous courage and grit” who “may someday be recognized as a Great American Hero for what he has exposed and what he has had to endure.”

Nunes has turned political donations into personal luxuries, echoing the type of tactics embraced by Trump himself. It is no surprise that Trump would call a politician like that a “hero.”
