Fox News: Trump can separate families because 'these aren't our kids'

Fox News has now stated plainly that the mostly Latino immigrant children being attacked by Trump should be treated worse because of their backgrounds.

On the most recent episode of Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade said, “like it or not, these aren’t our kids.” He added, “Show them compassion, but it’s not like he is doing this to the people of Idaho or Texas. These are people from another country, and now people are saying that they’re more important than people in our country who are paying taxes and who have needs as well.”

“Fox & Friends” has a demonstrated pipeline directly to Trump’s brain, and so actions endorsed and promoted by the program’s hosts aren’t just the standard racist rantings of right-wing ideologues. They are as influential as any presidential adviser working in the White House, if not more so.

Kilmeade laid out a bigoted justification for the Trump policy of attacking families and putting people in cages. It is unlikely to be a coincidence that the first state he mentioned for the means of comparing how to treat children was Idaho, which has an 89 percent white population.

The comment was not made in a vacuum either. Kilmeade has expressed keen interest in racial purity and genetics before.

He once lamented that Americans don’t have “pure genes” like Swedes, because Americans “keep marrying other species and other ethnics.”

Kilmeade also complained about the movement to remove pro-slavery monuments to the Confederacy, slamming people opposed to those statutes as wanting to “remake our memorials.”

Attacking the humanity of Latino immigrants is in line with the message pushed by Kilmeade and Fox for decades. It is the message Trump adopted on his way to the Republican nomination and the presidency.

There isn’t any daylight between the administration and their racist cable news propaganda partners.

Trump ripped Latino families apart and put children in cages. Fox News justified the action in offensive racist terms and sought to reinforce his odious behavior.

They all deserve each other.
