Fox host defends putting kids in cages by claiming they're not cages
Fox News’ defense of Trump’s cruel policy of separating families is downright weird.
As the Trump administration desperately tries to escape the backlash growing from their policy of ripping children away from parents, Trump’s favorite Fox News show is lending a helping hand.
Over the weekend, reporters and lawmakers were allowed to tour an immigration processing facility in South Texas, but they were not permitted to publish photos or video.
Instead, the government released its own propaganda photos. But even those were too disturbing for “Fox & Friends” to tell the truth about.
On Monday morning, co-host Steve Doocy was reporting on the release of the photographs, and said, “Some likened them, to concentration camps or cages. You do see that they have those thermal blankets. You see some fencing.”
“Some referred to them as cages,” Doocy said. “This is a great big warehouse facility, where they built walls out of chain-link fences.”
Doocy’s rationalizing on behalf of the Trump administration obviously does not change what people see when they look at these photographs. But it does demonstrate the panic that has overtaken Trumpworld as Trump’s cruel family separation policy blows up in their faces.
Trump’s attempts to blame the policy on Democrats have all failed miserably.
Now, Trump’s Homeland Security secretary is trying to pretend that the policy doesn’t even exist, in much the same way that Steve Doocy is trying to pretend that cages aren’t cages.
Trump’s policy has resulted in more than 2,000 children being ripped away from their parents in a matter of weeks, and may have also contributed to one father’s suicide.
There is no lie or euphemism that will make those horrors go away.
