‘They want kid gloves’: Fox host makes awful joke about child separations

As Trump holds thousands of children prisoner with no plan for reuniting them with their parents, Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt thought it would be funny to joke about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents using “kid gloves” to handle the people they arrest and detain.

On Monday morning’s edition of “Fox & Friends,” Sheriff Chuck Jenkins remarked that under Trump, “the gloves are off” when it comes to immigration enforcement.

Co-host Pete Hegseth remarked that “The left doesn’t want the gloves to come off, they want the gloves to stay on.”

Ainsley Earhardt then interrupted Hegseth to say, “They want kid gloves.”

She then pantomimed a petting motion, and said with a laugh, “Handle very gently!”

Earhardt’s joke was clearly meant to portray Democrats as being soft on crime because they care about due process and the humane treatment of refugees.

But her painfully poor choice of words just highlighted the cruelty of Trump’s immigration policy, which inflicts trauma on innocent kids and parents who are seeking safety from violence in their home countries.

In fact, a group of lead criminal investigators at ICE have warned the Trump administration that Trump’s anti-immigrant zeal is diverting attention and resources from the prosecution of serious crimes — including terrorism, child pornography, and more.

Meanwhile, thousands of children remain imprisoned after being ripped away from their parents, and the Trump administration has no plan for reuniting them — despite an order from a judge that families must be reunited within 30 days.

Trump tried to quash bad headlines by signing a sham executive order almost two weeks ago. But that order did nothing to end the “zero tolerance” policy that caused the children to be ripped from their families in the first place.

Instead, Trump is seeking the power to imprison families together indefinitely, which would divert even more resources away from prosecuting real crimes.

If Ainsley Earhardt really cared about crime at our borders, she would join the rest of the world in calling for an end to Trump’s inhumane, unjust, and disastrous policy of separating families.
