Michael Cohen's lawyer says Cohen's not done ratting out Trump
Lanny Davis has not been subtle about his client’s willingness to tell Robert Mueller everything he knows and expose Trump.
After former Trump fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to committing federal crimes at Trump’s behest, Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis, made the media rounds to deliver one loud and clear message: Cohen has more dirt, and he’s eager to share.
On Tuesday night’s edition of “The Rachel Maddow Show,” Davis said that Cohen “has knowledge on certain subjects that should be of interest to the special counsel, and is more than happy to tell the special counsel all that he knows.”
He said that Cohen has information on the Trump Tower meeting, which he called part of “a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system in the 2016 election.”
Davis also said that Cohen has “knowledge about the computer crime of hacking and whether or not Mr. Trump knew ahead of time about that crime,” adding, “We know that he publicly cheered it on — did he also have private information?”
Davis made similar claims in a number of other interviews following the plea. He told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that Cohen has information relevant to Mueller’s federal investigation — but also suggested Cohen could implicate Trump in state crimes, where Trump would be powerless to pardon himself.
“We’ll see whether the level of corruption alleged concerning the Trump Foundation is a topic of concern for the New York attorney general,” Davis said.
As for the prospect of a Trump pardon for Cohen, Davis told NPR that Cohen “has flatly authorized me to say under no circumstances would he accept a pardon from Mr. Trump.”
Cohen has already pleaded guilty to eight criminal charges, and admitted in court that he committed two federal elections violations at Trump’s direction. One was a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, and the other was the brokering of another deal to silence Playboy model Karen McDougal. Both women alleged sexual affairs with Trump.
Cohen is free on bond pending his sentencing on Dec. 12 — which gives him a lot of time to talk to Mueller, and gives Trump a lot of time to sweat.
