Sarah Sanders spends a month in hiding as Trump completely loses it

The White House press secretary has essentially stopped answering questions about the administration.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders has once again gone into hiding as reports continue to surface of absolute chaos within the Trump White House.

Sanders held her last press briefing a month ago, on March 11. Even in that appearance, she limited her time to just 15 minutes, most of which she spent dodging reporters’ questions. The bulk of that briefing was taken up by Russell Voight, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, who took questions on Trump’s proposed budget.

Since then, Sanders has largely avoided the public, except for appearances in the safe space of Fox News, which operates as a Trump propaganda outlet. She appeared on Fox on March 12, March 25, April 2, and April 4 to deliver attacks on Democrats in an environment where she won’t be seriously challenged.

While Sanders has been in her media bunker, Trump has been running wild.

He has been falsely claiming that special counsel Robert Mueller fully exonerated him on all matters of collusion and obstruction. Trump has not seen Mueller’s report, and Attorney General William Barr refuses to release the full document.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to shut down the border, which has been widely criticized. Even the Chamber of Commerce, a key Republican ally, chastised him for hurting the economy by merely bringing up the idea.

Meanwhile, Congress and the FBI are investigating what appears to have been espionage at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, triggered by lax security at the venue because the Secret Service cannot control who has access to the private club. Reporters have not had the opportunity to ask about this in a public setting.

Also, while Sanders has been AWOL, Trump initiated a purge at the Department of Homeland Security. He forced the resignation of Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who, despite implementing some of the administration’s most cruel practices, was deemed insufficiently tough for Trump. Other top officials were ousted as well. Part of the upheaval at DHS is reportedly related to Trump directing government officials to break the law.

Sanders hasn’t even held a briefing in public to address the administration’s backing of a lawsuit to completely strike down the Affordable Care Act and strip health care 20 million people.

White House adviser Kellyanne Conway has been claiming — all reports to the contrary — that Trump is developing an alternative health care plan. Trump’s own statements have been all over the place, saying that he and the GOP are working on a plan and then saying they won’t bother with a plan until after the 2020 election. Sanders has not given reporters the opportunity to publicly ask about what exactly the administration is or is not doing about health care.

Trump is currently pushing fellow sexual predator Herman Cain for the Federal Reserve Board, and even his fellow Republicans have raised concerns about the unqualified nominee and possible damage to the global economy.

Sanders has not addressed questions on this nomination either.

She wasn’t even available to explain Trump’s disastrous decision to kill all federal funding for the Special Olympics program, the enormous blowback he received, and his weird and humiliating 180-degree flip-flop on the issue.

The list of questions and scandals and crises goes on and on, but Sanders — whose taxpayer-funded job is to answer these questions — remains in hiding. She has held only 2 briefings in all of 2019, with a 41-day gap between the briefing she held on Jan. 28 and the March 11 event. Even before that, the previously daily event was curtailed, with only one briefing a month in October, November, and December of 2018.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to make a mess of the simplest things, and the person who is supposed to explain it to the American public is nowhere to be seen.
