Trump spends Easter weekend raging after revelations in Mueller report
He knows it makes him look very, very bad.
For someone who is theoretically so happy about the outcome of the Mueller report, Trump spent an awful lot of time over Easter weekend raging about it on Twitter.
Saturday featured yet another live-tweet of his Fox television viewing, which is also how he spent the evening after the report came out. When he’s faced with any unhappiness, Trump turns to Fox, which he praises for its “honest commentary.”
Trump started Easter Sunday by tweeting that he has “never been happier or more content” thanks to an economy that is the “talk of the World.” That good mood didn’t last very long.
Within an hour, Trump was complaining about “the Trump Haters and Angry Democrats who wrote the Mueller Report were devastated by the No Collusion finding!” It’s impressive that Trump can hold two such completely dissonant thoughts in his head at the same time.
On the one hand, he fervently believes the report entirely exonerated him. On the other hand, he claims the report is the product of “Trump Haters and Angry Democrats” who seek to undermine him.
A moment’s thought would make clear these ideas can’t be simultaneously true, but Trump isn’t sparing that moment.
After a brief detour to brag about the unemployment rate, Trump returned to grumbling about the Russia investigation again, calling it the “most corrupt political Witch Hunt in the history of the United States” and accusing the “other side” of illegally creat[ing] the diversionary & criminal event.”
He finished out the weekend pushing back on calls for impeachment, insisting that he shouldn’t be impeached for “a crime that was committed by the Democrats.”
That’s an impressively twisted conclusion, even for Trump. It requires a complete refusal to acknowledge that the Mueller report spent several hundred pages detailing Trump’s crimes, not those of any Democrats.
These weekend Trump meltdowns are becoming a distressingly regular occurrence. And why not? It isn’t as if he spends the time working. When Trump tweeted Sunday morning about the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka, he (or whichever staffer he had composing the tweet for him) couldn’t even be bothered to make sure his tweet was correct. While 138 people died in the attacks, the original tweet mourned the death of 138 million people.
Trump is still facing an unprecedented number of investigations from the House, the Southern District of New York, the New York state tax department, and more. He’s got an awful lot of rough weekends ahead of him.
