Ivanka Trump claims her dad is 'energized' by impeachment

First daughter Ivanka Trump told CBS News that Donald Trump is “energized” from being impeached, saying that the stain of being the third president to have impeachment branded on his legacy is motivating.

CBS reporter Margaret Brennan, who conducted the interview, didn’t seem to buy Ivanka Trump’s argument, and referenced the unhinged six-page letter Donald Trump wrote to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the eve of his impeachment, filled with lies and insults.

“I’m surprised to hear you say energized, because when I read the letter your father sent to Speaker Pelosi he seemed angry,” Brennan said.

Ivanka Trump responded by saying her father is both angry and energized.

“I don’t think the words are mutually exclusive, you can be angry at a process that is unjust, there can be anger … but it’s still energizing and it focuses you,” she said.

Donald Trump, for his part, has been in a rage since the House voted to impeach him on Wednesday.

In addition to his letter to Pelosi, which he then had delivered to Democratic lawmakers in a Christmas card, he has tweeted numerous times about impeachment, calling it a “hoax” (it was very much real) and belittling those who support his impeachment and removal from office, including the evangelical magazine Christianity Today.

The New York Times also reported that Trump is privately furious, and has even tried to convince himself that Pelosi wouldn’t actually put the articles of impeachment up for a vote because there wasn’t enough support on Capitol Hill. In fact, more members voted to impeach Trump than voted to impeach former President Bill Clinton.

Now Trump is even more enraged that Pelosi is dragging out the impeachment story by refusing to pass the articles of impeachment to the Senate until Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agrees to a fair trial. As of now, McConnell plans to quickly acquit Trump without calling any witnesses.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Thursday night that Trump is “mad as hell.”
