Kellyanne Conway: Trump won't condemn child molestation because Moore story is "8 days old"

Now, top White House aide Kellyanne Conway has come up with a laughable justification: The story, first published just last week and continuing to develop with more and more allegations, is old news.

Appearing on the pro-Trump Fox News, Conway was asked why Trump chose to opine on the allegation against Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) while remaining tight-lipped on Moore.

Conway explained to the host that “Al Franken was a brand new news story yesterday and the president weighed in as he does on the news of the day.” She contrasted that with the Moore story which she described as “8 days old.”

SMITH: But we haven’t heard a lot from the president – he’s tweeting on Al Franken, he was asked about Roy Moore yesterday and he did not respond.

CONWAY: Well, Al Franken was a brand new news story yesterday and the president weighed in as he does on the news of the day, often enough. The Roy Moore story is eight days old and the president put out a statement during his Asia trip on that, and since then our press secretary has spoken on behalf of the president by saying that he believes the people of Alabama will sort out what to do with Roy Moore and with that election.

This is the second time Conway has issued an absurdist justification for this hypocritical behavior from Trump. Previously, she claimed that he was focused on policy and not the Moore scandal.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has also given ridiculous excuses for Trump’s silence, saying that unless Moore is found guilty “in a court of law,” there is no reason for Trump to weigh in.

Trump is a serial sexual predator and has admitted on tape that he assaults women. He is avoiding the Moore issue on his side of the aisle, while attacking Franken because the target of his ire is a Democrat.

But the justifications from his White House, as always, do not pass the smell test. And Conway has now invented a new standard to excuse Trump’s behavior.

Child molestation and sexual misconduct do not fade away with time.

Trump’s team is desperately trying to distract from his own past behavior while remaining mum on Roy Moore. But his ongoing silence speaks volumes about where he stands, and it isn’t with children or women.
